Christian, conservative businessman Brad Raffensperger announced this week that he has signed the Georgia School Choice pledge, reaffirming his commitment to expanding educational freedom and working toward universal school choice in Georgia.
“As a Christian conservative, it’s clear that parents — not government bureaucrats — know what’s best for their children’s education,” Raffensperger said. “School choice is about empowering families and giving every student the opportunity to succeed.”
School choice encourages parents to make the best educational decisions for their children, whether that means public school, private school, charter school, or homeschooling.
By signing the pledge, Raffensperger reaffirmed his commitment to policies that expand educational opportunity for families across the Peach State. As Governor, he will work toward the long-term goal of universal school choice, ensuring every family has the freedom to choose the learning environment that best fits their children.
As an immediate step toward that goal, Raffensperger supports expanding two of Georgia’s existing school choice programs:
- Georgia Promise Scholarship: Raise the program cap to 10 percent of total education spending, up from the current cap of 1 percent of the previous year’s state K-12 funding.
- Georgia Tax Credit Scholarship Program: Increase the cap from $120 million to $500 million, allowing thousands of more families to access scholarships to send their children to school of their choice. The program consistently reaches its current annual cap, preventing additional credits from being issued to students.
Raffensperger also noted that school choice promotes accountability across the education system.
“Competition is good,” Raffensperger said. “When parents have real choices, schools work harder to earn their trust and enrollment. That kind of accountability strengthens our entire education system.”
Raffensperger has long supported school choice initiatives throughout his public service career, including during his time in the Georgia General Assembly and as Georgia’s Secretary of State. Expanding educational freedom will remain a top priority when he is in the Governor’s office.
